Search Brooks County Jail Inmates

Brooks County Jail is the county jail for Brooks County, Georgia, and the place to look up inmates at Brooks County Jail after a local arrest or hold. The jail roster covers people booked through the sheriff, Quitman police, municipal agencies, court-related authorities, and other arresting agencies after they enter county custody. A Brooks County Jail inmate lookup should use the sheriff-linked roster first, then the jail phone, open-records process, state corrections, or federal and immigration locators when the person is not shown in local custody.

Brooks County Jail Overview

Brooks County Jail is operated by the Brooks County Sheriff's Department. The official county sheriff page lists the jail as part of the department along with Uniform Patrol, Investigations, and Narcotics. It also names Sheriff Mike Dewey and Chief Deputy Joe Wheeler. The jail is separate from the sheriff's administrative office on Screven Street and from the C.I.D. building on Holloway Drive.

The facility holds people arrested in Brooks County and its municipalities, including pretrial detainees, warrant or hold detainees, defendants tied to State Court, Superior Court, municipal court, and short local jail commitments. The public roster shows arresting agencies such as Brooks County SO, Quitman PD, GBI, State Court, Superior Court, Morven Municipal, and Quitman Municipal. No public field for housing unit, cell, custody classification, work release, medical status, or ICE detainer was visible in sampled records.

The Brooks County sheriff page is the official local source for the jail name, jail phone, and Daily Jail Population link. The Georgia Department of Corrections location page confirms Brooks County Jail as a county jail at the same Quitman address, but it does not publish a local visitation schedule or housing layout.

Brooks County Jail Capacity

Brooks County Jail population information is best read from the roster as a current public snapshot. During June 4, 2026 research, the Current Inmates portal showed 85-87 currently booked people. The roster count changed between page requests, so it should not be treated as a fixed average daily population. The Inmates by Arrest Date tab showed 144 entries in its default visible date range, but that list included current and released records.

85-87 Current roster snapshot observed June 4, 2026

A legacy GDC-derived public listing reported 112 beds, but the current county page and current GDC location page reviewed for this project did not publish a rated bed count. No official Brooks County average daily population, annual bookings, overcrowding order, consent decree, jail construction notice, or current capacity litigation item was located in the high-authority source sweep.

Look Up Brooks County Jail Inmates

The correct lookup system for Brooks County Jail is the sheriff-linked Synergistic Software roster. The current-inmates tab is the default Brooks County Jail custody search. The 24 Hours Arrests tab helps with newly booked people. The Inmates by Arrest Date tab is useful when the person may have already been released or when the arrest date is known.

  1. Open the Brooks County Current Inmates roster from the sheriff page or directly.
  2. Search by last name, first name, or both. Both name fields were labeled optional during research.
  3. Use page numbers when the roster count spans more than one page.
  4. Check 24 Hours Arrests for a new arrest that may not be obvious on the main list.
  5. Use Inmates by Arrest Date with begin and end date controls for current or released entries in the visible range.
  6. If the person is not listed, call the jail, then check GDC, BOP, ICE, or VINELink based on the custody question.

The county roster does not publish a last-updated timestamp or refresh interval. The safest wording is that it is the official Daily Jail Population portal linked by Brooks County's sheriff and that each count is a page-load snapshot.

The date-range interface is useful when a person is not on the current-inmates tab but may still have a recent public booking entry.

Brooks County Jail Address

The Holloway Drive address is the jail address for Brooks County custody questions. The sheriff's administrative office is at 1 Screven Street, Suite 3, and the C.I.D. building is at 1004 Holloway Drive. That distinction matters because court, administrative, and jail functions are not all handled at one counter.

Visiting Brooks County Jail

Official Brooks County pages reviewed for this build did not publish a public visitation schedule, remote-video vendor, holiday schedule, lockdown cancellation rule, approved visitor list process, dress code, child visitor rule, or visit length. Use the jail phone before traveling. Generic third-party visitation schedules should not be treated as verified Brooks County Jail rules.

Mail and Money at Brooks County Jail

The official source sweep did not locate a Brooks County Jail inmate mail format, required inmate ID rule, postcard rule, photo limit, publication rule, legal-mail exception, tablet vendor, phone vendor, video-call vendor, deposit kiosk, online deposit vendor, or consumer fee schedule. The FY 2024-25 county budget does contain an Inmate Commissary Fund 230, which confirms commissary-related county accounting, but it does not tell families how to deposit money.

Brooks County Jail Booking

A person arrested by Brooks County SO, Quitman PD, Barwick PD, Morven Municipal, GBI, or another agency may be transported to Brooks County Jail when county detention is required. Intake creates the jail record, and the public roster can then show the person's name, status, arrest date, arresting agency, bond, and charge information.

The county does not publish a full local booking policy or timing rule for when a new entry appears online. The 24 Hours Arrests tab supports recent-arrest searches, but the jail phone remains the fallback when a booking is too new or when the roster is unclear. First appearance, warrants, and bond issues may involve Magistrate Court, while filed cases later appear through State Court, Superior Court, municipal court, or clerk channels.

Bond values on the roster need careful reading. Numeric Total Bond values can appear, but so can NOT SET or DENIED. A court order, warrant, no-bond hold, probation or parole hold, detainer, or another-agency issue can prevent release even when a reader expects bond to be available.

Brooks County Jail Records Requests

When the roster does not provide an older booking record, photo, or jail document, Brooks County's open-records process is the local fallback. The county policy manual says requests may be made by telephone, in person, mail, fax, online through the county website, or email. Written requests are preferred but not required, and the county should respond within three business days unless another rule applies.

Useful request details include the person's full name, arrest date, arresting agency, court or warrant number if known, and the specific existing record sought. The county is not required to create a new report, summary, or compilation. If responsive records contain exempt and non-exempt information, the policy supports redaction instead of treating every detail as public.

County Clerk Patricia Williams is listed for open-records coordination at (229) 263-5561, and the policy manual lists publicrecords@brookscountyga.gov as an email channel. The County Administration Office is at 610 South Highland Street in Quitman. Jail custody confirmation should still go to Brooks County Jail first.

Brooks County Jail Transfer Paths

Brooks County Jail is not a Georgia state prison, BOP institution, or ICE detention facility. If a person is sentenced to Georgia prison after a Brooks County case, the GDC offender query becomes the better search channel after transfer. GDC allows name, descriptor, GDC ID, case number, most recent institution, offense, sentence status, and conviction-county searches.

Federal custody is searched through the BOP inmate locator, which is for federal prisoners and not a Brooks County Jail roster substitute. Immigration custody is searched through the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. VINELink can supplement these channels for release or custody-status alerts, but it is not a full court or booking record.

Brooks County Jail Location Context

Brooks County was formed in 1858, and Quitman is the county seat. The county's historic courthouse area and several court offices are centered around Screven Street, while Brooks County Jail is on Holloway Drive. That split is practical for anyone seeking records: jail custody and booking questions are not the same as court case access.

Quitman Police Department and Barwick Police Department are local law-enforcement agencies in the county, but no separate official city jail roster or municipal detention facility page was located. A person arrested by those agencies may still need to be searched through Brooks County Jail once booked into county custody.
